The Mexican-American war was fought from 1846 to 1848 in the wake of the anexxation of Texas into the union. Pres. James K. Polk's design for California didn't help whole lot either. In November 1845 Polk sent Slidlle as an envoy to Mexico City to try and purchase California and reduce tensions. These didn't help a whole lot so even more tension between the countries grew. One of the top american advocate's for the war, who happened to be President, gave a speech to Congress asking them to declare war on Mexico. War was finally declared on May 13, 1846. And as you can tell we won! If we hadn't have won California and most of the west side of the country would be part of Mexico. Thank goodness we won.
